Sri Lanka have defeated West Indies by eight wickets in the last match of the Super Six stage of the ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers on Friday at the Harare Sports Club.
While batting first, West Indies scored a total of 243 in 48 overs before they were all out. Lower middle-order batter Keacy Carty helped his team make a decent total as he scored 87 off 96 balls.
Sri Lanka — who did not lose a single game in the Super Six stage — chased the target in the 44th over without any trouble with the help of Pathum Nissanka’s century. The openers Nissanka and Dimuth Kuranaratne formed a 190-run partnership and guided their team to an easy victory.

Earlier on Thursday, the Netherlands defeated Scotland by four wickets in a must-win match and secured their place in the Cricket World Cup in India.
To book their place in the World Cup, the Dutch had to complete the target of 288 runs within 44 overs. However, they ended up chasing it in the 42nd over, courtesy of de Leede’s — who took five wickets in the first inning — astonishing century making sure his team play the World Cup
Sri Lanka and the Netherlands have qualified for the World Cup and thus, will play in India in October. The Dutch also eliminated West Indies — who failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in history — from the race.
Sri Lanka will face the Netherlands in the final of the Qualifiers at Harare Sports Club on Sunday, July 9.
It must be noted that 10 teams will fight for the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy across 10 venues from October 5 to November 19, with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosting the tournament opener and the final.
The tournament will be played in the round-robin format with all teams playing against each other for a total of 45 league matches.
The top four teams will qualify for the semifinals, which will be held in Mumbai on November 15 and in Kolkata on November 16. The semi-finals and the final will have reserve days.
